New Twitter App Deployed to Save 500,000 New Wind Jobs

The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) needs your support! The wind production tax credit (PTC) is set to expire at the end of this year, and without an extension the United States could lose as many as 500,000 new jobs. However, there is hope. Congress will ultimately be the one responsible to make the decision on whether or not to extend the renewable energy production tax credit (PTC), and they need to hear from you.
This week, the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) launched a creative new Twitter application to send Tweet Congress. The Twitter app is being launched as part of a push to extend the renewable energy production tax credit in order to protect half of the American wind industry work force and prove wind energy is a sector with great potential. The application finds your Senators and Representatives based on your zip code, and then allows you to reach out to them through Twitter with only one click. All of these tweets will appear on a map, demonstrating the broad support for wind energy all across the country. The app uses the Sunlight Labs Congressional API, to pull in both geographic information and the Congressional Twitter handles. Fission Strategy is proud to have helped design and launch this Twitter app to help save 500,000 new wind jobs in the U.S.
The PTC supports homegrown sustainable American energy resources, like wind power and is essential in encouraging the development of proven clean energy projects and keeping electricity prices low. However, the PTC is facing the risk of expiring, threatening hundreds of thousands of American jobs. The negative consequences of the expiration of the PTC’s future have already started to be felt; businesses are hesitant to invest in renewable energies due to the uncertainty and American manufacturers from the wind industry have already seen a fall in orders. In some areas these manufacturers have already been forced to start laying off some of their employees.
In this struggling economy, we cannot afford to cut tens of thousands of American jobs, prevent the opportunity for hundreds of thousands of new jobs, and see energy prices go up for American households. Please use the app here in order to send a message to your legislators and save 500,000 new American wind jobs. With your support we hope to help create a future powered by wind energy.
