Fission’s Cheryl Contee Weighs In on Ron Paul on Current TV’s ‘The Young Turks’

Fission Strategy's own Cheryl Contee joined host Cenk Uygur once again for the December 21, 2011 edition of Current TV’s The Young Turks to discuss Ron Paul’s presidential run and the resurfacing of newsletters published under his name. Joined by David Pakman of “The David Pakman Show” and Michael Tomasky of The Daily Beast, the ‘power panel’ discussed the writings from the Ron Paul Political Report, first published in 1987, and the accumulation of criticism towards the Paul campaign.

When asked whether or not Ron Paul demonstrated a pattern of racism, Cheryl said, “I think there’s a considerable pattern and it gives Ron Paul a certain amount of baggage, despite his current moderate and libertarian leanings.” Will racist overtones be enough to damage Paul’s campaign? The panel conveyed that the importance of race relations and their correlation to the economy was a persistent issue in the 2012 Presidential race. Coverage of the attention surrounding Paul’s association with the newsletters exemplified this.
