Why Fission Strategy Attracts Igniters for Social Good

Posted by Abigail Simmons on January 31, 2014

Louisa May Alcott once wrote, "Strong convictions precede strong actions," a statement proven true by the founders of Fission Strategy, Roz Lemieux and Cheryl Contee. In the fall of the year 2008, these women founded Fission Strategy, a place where we "Ignite social action for good."

Fission helps to bring organizations to the next level by leveraging technology and social media where their social causes are in need of web development and online strategy. The result is organizational supporters mobilized to take action and effectively promote the organization to their own online (and offline) networks.

When I first joined Fission Strategy as a New Media Intern, I quickly learned that the team is very technology- and media-focused, with a heart for social change. We are constantly engaging in new innovations and ideas by engaging with other firms, building relationships with their networks, attending conferences, and constantly tinkering with new ideas.

We have also created a work environment where we teach each other to stay ahead of new tech developments and trends. The team is diverse in our expertise and professional experiences. The fact that Fission Strategy allows its team members to work from home and in other countries is probably a large reason for that! As a student looking for an internship a couple of months ago, there was no other organization that I found like this. Interns are paid and considered team members, and men and women on the team are able to be attentive parents while developing a meaningful career.

Throughout the next couple of weeks I will be interviewing members of the Fission Strategy team. I want to know their story of what brought them to this company, what their role is, and discover new things they hope to implement at Fission in 2014. I hope to document a snapshot of what makes our team members igniters of social action for good, and how their work is actually making change in the world.
