Advanced Web Development Internship
Location: Washington, DC
Hours and Duration: Summer 2012; 20-40 hours per week
Compensation: $500 per month for part time interns, $1000 per month for full time interns. Academic credit can also be available depending on your institution’s requirements.

Fission Strategy helps social causes harness social media for social good. We specialize in delivering social media and mobile-driven strategies for nonprofits and foundations. We also offer custom website and web application development. We have a small, fun crew that stays in touch throughout the workday on Yammer, Skype, email, and IM. We are largely a "virtual" company -- our team is spread out across the US -- but have a hub in Washington, DC where interns will work.
Position overview: Fission Strategy seeks an Advanced Web Development Intern to provide support in the development and implementation of online outreach and advocacy campaigns. This position will provide the opportunity to work with a broad variety of non-profit organizations on a range of issues. Interns get direct, hands-on experience with online campaigning and will assist in web development, app development, and design projects. Responsibilities will vary based on experience, expertise, and interest and may include: developing mobile applications and websites for non-profits, developing Facebook and Twitter applications, working with campaign related web development such as email templates and action toolkit setup, and implementing unique widgets such as share buttons for social networks.
Most of our work is in PHP, Javascript (jQuery), HTML5/CSS3, and CodeIgniter on Linux servers with MYSQL db. We use many standard APIs (Google Maps, Facebook, Twitter, CRMs, etc).
Academic credit may be available for this position depending on your institution’s requirements.
