Female Founders Pursue Dreams through Product Startups

The challenges and triumphs of being a startup founder are huge. Women in Product is building a strong community of women builders and leaders, and this year they gathered 1,500 women, a third of whom are mothers. Here we’ll give you a taste!

The event featured some of the most savvy and successful startup founders and product builders in tech, including April Underwood (VP of Product at Slack), Fidji Simo (VP of Product at Facebook), and Avni Shah (VP Product Management at Google).

Fission’s CEO / Attentive.ly Co-Founder Cheryl Contee was honored to speak on the Female Founders panel along with Lauren Schiller (Host of Inflection Point), Selina Tobaccowala (Founder of Team Gixo), Heather M. Fernandez (Co-founder of Solv), and Aarthi Ramamurthy (Founder of Lumoid.com).

Photo of Cheryl Contee along with #WIP2017 featured female founders, Heather M. Fernandez, WIP co-founder Yardley Ip, Lauren Schiller, and WIP co-founder Ashita Achuthan.

Cheryl spoke about the challenges that startup founders face when it comes to funding in particular. Her advice spoke to the importance of setting boundaries with Angel and VC investors while also setting the moral tone as the leader of your startup.

She and the rest of these powerhouse startup founders led an informative session that had many buzzing afterward.

We hope all women in our network who are interested in product management and who are startup founders will stay tuned for next year’s Women In Product conference. If you attended let us know what you learned!

We’d like to say a special thank you to Yardley Ip Pohl for awesome organizing powers!
