Global Teacher Prize

Spotlight: In 2014 and 2015, Fission created a metrics-guided digital strategy and campaign to launch the prize and build a community of outstanding teachers and teacher champions. Through a website redesign and #TeachersMatter campaign, the prize garnered thousands of applications from all around the world.

Spotlight: When Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Jose Antonio Vargas decided to “come out” as an undocumented immigrant, he came to Fission to design a new kind of campaign, brand identity and web presence to frame his inspiring story in a personal context and encourage others to share theirs.

  • Helped frame New York Times Magazine feature "Outlaw: My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant", the single most shared story on the entire Internet for 2 weeks with 150,000+ shares.
  • Crafted email campaign language later also used by President Obama during an immigration policy announcement.

Spotlight: Earthjustice and Fission worked together to raise awareness about mountaintop removal coal mining in Appalachia. As a result, Patriot Coal deciding to stop mountaintop mining.

  • Conducted photo campaign petition with 14,000 submissions sent to the Obama Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency that reflected the public’s opposition to the practices of mountaintop removal coal mining
  • Identified potential influencers for outreach for the Mountain Heroes campaign
  • Created a detailed weekly campaign timeline specified narrative themes, content needs, blogger pitching, and incremental goals (for petitions, web traffic, Facebook and Twitter growth).
