Global Teacher Prize

Spotlight: The Varkey Foundation in London and Dubai was launching a new Nobel-Prize-type award to elevate the stature of teachers globally — the Global Teacher Prize — and needed an online strategy to reach teachers around the world. During this project, we:

  • Made recommendations for structure & flow of the competition and criteria for judging by a prestigious Academy;
  • Conducted influencer and blogger research segmented by countries, resulting in coverage by high-profile blogs;
  • Created sample ready-to-share launch content for partners, allies, influencers, and bloggers;
  • Reviewed benchmarks and set goals, eventually going 30% over goal and reaching millions of people;
  • Developed a detailed timeline and plan for launch with a multilingual website and ad campaign.
The San Francisco Foundation

Spotlight: The San Francisco Foundation wanted to understand current opportunities for growth to achieve an expanded base of online supporters and demonstrate leadership in philanthropy. Building upon Influencer Mapping research and a Digital Audit, Fission developed a 2-year strategy. In this project, we:

  • Designed a “Guiding Constellations to Success” visual to build equity with distributed engagement, align donors, lead partnerships, expand scale and funding, open awareness, and share grantee impact and leadership;
  • Made recommendations for how to move toward a distributed engagement model with a network of supporters, grantees, staff and board members trained on social media outreach.
UNHCR Canada

Spotlight: The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) of Canada sought to engage the current audience better and attract a younger demographic. They needed to create a ladder of engagement and new types of storytelling with the important stories and visuals coming out of the work, and educate the public on the impact of refugee protection from civil conflicts. In this project, we:

  • Made website design recommendations to attract a younger demographic that’s often on mobile and ready to share content;
  • Developed messaging and 4 potential creative campaign themes about refugees as innovators;
  • Showed to use for increased engagement with VIPs, professionals, and citizen influencers;
  • Analyzed email outreach to make fundraising recommendations;
  • Created a week-by-week timeline for each online outreach channel.
NAACP-LDF Voting Rights Infographic

Spotlight: The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People’s Legal Defense and Educational Fund (NAACP-LDF) was looking to bring awareness to two important cases headed to the Supreme Court – voting rights and college admissions. Fission researched the current landscape online where the potential right to vote was challenged, then worked with NAACP-LDF to update their online strategy in order to reach their target audiences more effectively. In this project, we:

  • Helped develop a robust Twitter strategy and designed infographics intended to be shared across the social network;
  • Quadrupled Twitter following In a matter of months;
  • Reached key influencers, media, and decision makers, including Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, through an infographic.

Spotlight: Fission has worked closely with the fabulous MomsRising team for many years, providing a full range of strategy, design, and tech support. In that time, MomsRising has grown from 100,000 to over one million members, and built a reputation as one of the most innovative and effective advocacy organizations in the US. Some of our work for MomsRising in the past includes:

  • Conducted annual stats analysis and wrote white papers;
  • Redesigned the website;
  • Designed and developed holiday themed take action microsites, including Send a Halloweed Card to Congress, Send a Valetine to Congress, Mothers Day Wall of Fame and;
  • Provided online marketing support for various campaigns including 2009 and 2010 "Mother of the Year" videos.
